Which plan you actually need
The honest test is the invoice count. If you bill three or fewer clients in a typical month and a watermark on the PDF doesn't bother you, the free plan is a complete tool and you never need to pay anything. That covers a lot of part-time freelancers and side businesses.
Pro earns its money in two situations. The first is volume — a contractor doing several jobs a week hits the limit in the first ten days. The second is presentation: if you are invoicing companies rather than individuals, a watermarked PDF undercuts you, and $4.99 is less than the time you would spend apologising for it.
What neither plan includes
Being clear about the gaps is more useful than pretending there aren't any. Invoice Spark does not have:
- Online card payments.There is no Stripe or PayPal “Pay now” button on the invoice. You put your bank or wallet details on it and get paid the way you already do.
- A web dashboard or desktop version. Cloud backup protects your data; it is not a second place to work from.
- Automatic payment reminders. The dashboard shows what is overdue; sending the nudge is still your job.
- Multi-user access. One person, one phone.
- An iPhone version. Invoice Spark is Android only.
How billing works
Pro is a Google Play subscription. It is charged to the payment method on your Play account, renews monthly until you cancel, and is cancelled from Play Store → Subscriptions rather than from inside the app. Cancelling leaves you on Pro until the end of the period you have already paid for, then drops you to the free plan.
Dropping back to free does not delete anything. Invoices already on your device stay there and stay readable — the 3-a-month allowance simply applies again to new ones, and new exports carry the watermark. - Is Invoice Spark free?
- There is a permanent free plan that lets you create 3 invoices every month, using all four templates, all supported currencies and tax settings, entirely offline. It is not a trial and it does not expire. Beyond 3 invoices in a month you need Pro, which is $4.99 per month.
- What does the $4.99 a month Pro plan add?
- Three things: unlimited invoices instead of 3 a month, removal of the watermark from exported PDFs, and cloud backup so your invoice history survives a lost or reset phone. Everything else — templates, clients, estimates, receipts, tax, currencies and offline working — is already in the free plan.
- Do free invoices have a watermark?
- Yes. PDFs exported on the free plan carry an Invoice Spark watermark. Removing it is one of the three things the Pro subscription buys. If a clean, unbranded PDF matters for how you present to clients, you need Pro.
- What happens when I hit 3 invoices in a month?
- You can keep using everything else — clients, estimates, quotations, receipts and your existing invoices are unaffected — but creating a fourth invoice that month requires Pro. The allowance resets the following month.
- Are there ads in the app?
- No. Invoice Spark contains no advertising and no advertising SDKs on either plan, so there are no banners, no interstitials and no ad identifiers being collected.
- Do I need an account to use Invoice Spark?
- Not for creating invoices. The free plan and all offline work need no sign-up, no email and no password. Cloud backup is the exception: it uploads a copy of your data so it can be restored, so it necessarily involves identifying your backup.
- Can I cancel the Pro subscription?
- Yes. Pro is billed through Google Play, so you cancel it in your Play Store subscriptions at any time and it runs to the end of the period you've paid for. After that you return to the free plan — your existing invoices stay on your device, and the 3-a-month allowance applies again.
- Is Pro cheaper than other invoice apps?
- $4.99 a month is at the low end of the category — most cloud invoicing subscriptions sit between $9 and $20 a month. The other difference is that the free plan below it is permanent rather than a 14-day trial, so you can keep using the app indefinitely without paying if 3 invoices a month covers you.
